To find a PCs basic specification, which includes CPU type , speed and size of RAM , right click on the My Computer icon. This icon can either be found on the desktop or on the start menu of the PC in question. Then left click on properties and the follow box will appear (image is supplied from a PC running Windows XP)  :

It also would display the manufactures name if it is a PC/laptop purchased by such a company. Furthermore at the top of this window, the version of Windows is displayed with its current service pack version. Click the Ok button to close this window.
