Which version of Windows am I running
Introduction

When using a PC , it is surprising how easy it is not to know what version of Windows it uses. This may ,to some people, sound silly but the majority of users are not so clued up, or have never needed to know.

This begs the question why would I want to know anyway? . Well comes the time when your PC may start causing problems and on contacting THE support company they will tend ask "what version of Windows are you running". Also,  there are those software boxes that tell you this program will only work on the following Windows versions, so which version do you have?.

Well Windows can tell you what version you are running via (as always with most operating systems) different routes. The following guide will go through the more informative of these

How do I find out what version I am running

If your PC has the icon My Computer  XP - My Computer (either located on the desktop or on the Start Menu) , then there is a good chance it will be either XP,2000 or 98/95. To confirm this, right click on the My Computer icon and then left click on the Properties option. This window will appear :

XP - System Properties

In this window (titled System Properties), it shows that this version of Windows is XP. It also gives the version release 2002 and what service pack is installed - 3 . These pieces of information can be very useful for different reasons.
